At http://www.tuxera.com/community/ntfs-3g ... privileged there is:

chown root.ntfsuser $(which ntfs-3g)

I guess you meant a ':' instead '.', right?
Also I think, there should be a line-break before.
When you write "... in the ntfsuser group ..." it sounds, that there just is one, so maybe add:

adduser ntfsuser
usermod -aG ntfsuser USER

It's not addgroup but groupadd too? (as of shadow 4.2.1, at least)
