Post Strange error using ntfs-3g
Hi, I am trying to mount a new ntfs usb disk which has had a large amount of data copied from another Ubuntu machine and I get a strange error:-

004:~ # mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sdb1 /mnt/simm
ntfs_attr_pread_i: ntfs_pread failed: Input/output error
Failed to read $AttrDef, unexpected length (-1 != 2560).
Failed to sync ‘device /dev/sdb1’: Input/output error
Failed to mount /dev/sdb1’: Input/output error
NTFS is either inconsistent, or there is a hardware fault, or it's a
SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows
then reboot into Windows twice. The usage of the /f parameter is very
important! If the device is a SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first activate
it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper/ directory, (e.g.
/dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1). Please see the 'dmraid' documentation
for more details.

This disk work fine on a windows 7 machine and chkdsk /f completes without error.
My machine is a suse machine with ntfs-3g and ntfsprogs updates to the most recent version.
I don't think the disk is corrupt but I am not sure how I can fix the problem.

Thanks

Hi,

Can you please post the output of (as root) :

Code:
ntfsinfo -fm /dev/sdb1
ntfsinfo -fvi 4 /dev/sdb1

Regards
