Post Resource temporarily unavailable
Hi I'd be grateful if anyone can shine a light on this problem

My Machines are both Oracle's Redhat Linux 6.2. NTFS-3G is the same on both systems (4.12-5) and I'm trying to mount my NTFS formatted drive. On the one machine it mounts fine and I can access it freely. But on the other it mounts but when I try to cd into it I get the message "resource temporarily unavailable" any ideas?

[root@edwp01 init.d]# mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sde1 /mnt
[root@edwp01 init.d]# ls /mnt
ls: cannot access /mnt: Resource temporarily unavailable

In Messages I see
Feb 22 14:54:11 edwp01 ntfs-3g[6390]: Version 2011.4.12 integrated FUSE 27
Feb 22 14:54:11 edwp01 ntfs-3g[6390]: Mounted /dev/sde1 (Read-Write, label "New Volume", NTFS 3.1)
Feb 22 14:54:11 edwp01 ntfs-3g[6390]: Cmdline options: rw
Feb 22 14:54:11 edwp01 ntfs-3g[6390]: Mount options: rw,allow_other,nonempty,atime,fsname=/dev/sde1,blkdev,blksize=4096

Hi,

Quote:
[root@edwp01 init.d]# mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sde1 /mnt
[root@edwp01 init.d]# ls /mnt
ls: cannot access /mnt: Resource temporarily unavailable

When a file system is mounted on a directory, the directory is locked.
Is /mnt your mount point ? Are you mounting several file systems on /mnt ?

Regards

Nope /mnt is the only file system I'm trying to mount on /mnt. I did create /mnt2 just in case there was something weird about /mnt but still got the temporarily unavailable message

I see that when I run the ntfsinfo -m command it tells me the volume is scheduled for Check

[root@edwp01 log]# ntfsinfo -m /dev/sde1
Volume is scheduled for check.

Unfortunately the USB is about 1,000 miles away in a Lights Out room :(

Hi,

This is not a direct cause for not mounting, though it might be an indication that there is something wrong with the device.

Anyway, the "Resource temporarily unavailable" error (EAGAIN) is never thrown by ntfs-3g. Googling for this error shows a relation with a shortage of resource, and this may explain a difference of behavior between your computers. "top" may provide hints about your available resources.

Regards

Jean-Pierre
