Post Error mounting USB Device
I got the following error if i try to mount my usb device:

Error opening '/dev/sdd1': Permission denied
Failed to mount '/dev/sdd1': Permission denied
Please check '/dev/sdc1' and the ntfs-3g binary permissions,
and the mounting user ID. More explanation is provided at
http://ntfs-3g.org/support.html#unprivileged
and I can't find anything on this error.

I do all of these points:
    1. ntfs-3g is compiled with integrated FUSE support 2. the ntfs-3g binary is at least version 1.2506 3. the ntfs-3g binary is set to setuid-root 4. the user has access right to the volume 5. the user has access right to the mount point

The output of " ls -l /dev/sdd1 /media/usb /bin/ntfs-3g" is:
Code:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root   root   164409 2012-01-08 18:35 /bin/ntfs-3g
brw-rw---- 1 root   disk    8, 49 2012-01-09 18:19 /dev/sdd1

What can I do to solve this problem?

Please note that using setuid-root can result unforeseen privilege escalation and its usage is discouraged. Only the absolutely trusted users must be granted such access. Below is an example how this can be done for users in the ntfsuser group to be able to mount any NTFS volume if they have also the needed volume access rights. chown root.ntfsuser $(which ntfs-3g)

These requirements do not show above.

Just apply all requirements, and prove it.

Hi,

I don`t understand what I`ve to do. My Linux Skills aren`t so perfectly.

I have done all Points, showing on this page:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1661757

So my User is Member of the Disk Group, he owns the mount point and I`ve setuid root for the new binary.

For me that should be all. What I`ve forgotten?

Hi,

now I can mount the specific device with the console.

But when I disconnect and connect again, the error Information still occurs. The console works all the time.

I`ve Ubuntu 11.10. Whats the problem?

Must be a permission issue. How are you mounting when it fails ?

Try describing what you are doing by pasting actual commands and actual state. Take the five conditions and show the resulting permissions, error messages, etc.

Hi, I open the console and then I prompt the command "mount /media/usb".

But If i Try to click on the device for automount, the error Information occurs.

Is there maybe a privilige Problem with Nautilus or Gnome Desktop or what else?

Nautilus has been observed to add its own security checks. I have not investigated.
