Post problem mounting ntfs partitions via fuse with kernel 3.0
Hi,

i dont know where the problem is exactly. i am using a self compiled embedded distro which uses:

linux-3.0-rc5
fuse-2.8.5
ntfs-3g_ntfsprogs-2011.4.12

if i mount a ntfs partition:

Code:
udisks --mount /dev/sdb1

Quote:
Mount failed: Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 21: fuse: unknown option `'

Code:
mount /dev/sdb1 /media/

Quote:
fuse: unknown option `'

Code:
mount.ntfs /dev/sdb1 /media/

Quote:
fuse: unknown option `'

Code:
strace mount.ntfs /dev/sdb1 /media/

Quote:
...
stat64("/media/", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0755, st_size=0, ...}) = 0
open("/dev/fuse", O_RDWR|O_LARGEFILE) = 4
getgid32() = 0
getuid32() = 0
mount("/dev/sdb1", "/media/", "fuseblk", MS_NOSUID|MS_NODEV, "allow_other,blksize=4096,fd=4,ro"...) = 0
geteuid32() = 0
lstat64("/etc/mtab", {st_mode=S_IFLNK|0777, st_size=17, ...}) = 0
write(2, "fuse: unknown option `\2'\n", 25fuse: unknown option `') = 25
poll([{fd=4, events=0}], 1, 0) = 0 (Timeout)
close(4)
....

where can be the problem, is it known and how i can fix this?

thanks for your help

Stephan

Not known to me so far, but as I already replied on the fuse forum, I suspect this is caused by some recent change in the kernel which has defeated some security check related to /etc/mtab being a symlink.

You have since reported that the problem does not occur when ntfs-3g is compiled with internal fuse. This is a useful workaround for other users having the same problem (do not ./configure with option "--with-fuse=external")
