Updating Ubuntu repository list to get latest distro version
Apologize if this question has already been asked, but I wasn't able to find it in any searches ...
I have an "old" Ubuntu 8.04 install on a laptop and need to start using NTFS-3g to access an NTFS partition. The version in the 8.04 distro is quite old -- Feb 2008.
While I certainly CAN download the latest source and try to make an executable from it, I would rather update the distro repo list to get newer packages. However, if I just add Intrepid repos to the list, I will be pressed into updating ALL my packages -- and my experience with doing the distro-upgrade proved that to be such a disaster that I had to restore 8.04 from backup to get a working system back.
So, is there anything I can add to the repo list to just get the newest NTFS-3G package(s)?

Perhaps you could ask around on the Ubuntu forums.
