Post Error compiling ntfs-3g-2009.3.8AR.1.tgz
I successfully installed the current NTFS-3g under Ubuntu but then I realized that I needed the advanced tools in order to get the configuration utility. So I tried to compile and it broke here:

You can type now 'make' to build ntfs-3g.

I am probably missing a library but frankly my knowledge of Linux is limited and compiling is unfortunately one of my weakpoints.

You need the libattr-devel or libattr1-devel or libattr-dev or something similar package depending on your distribution.

Hi,

Actually the libattr was not designed to be mandatory (a few options would however not be available if the library is missing), but there is an error in the checking.

By installing the library, it should be ok and you will get all the options.

Anyway I will release a fixed version.

Thank you for your bug report.

Regards

Jean-Pierre

thanks I knew it was simple but I thought I better ask before I went on.

I am cautiously optimistic that this version will allow me to give access to my individual user's windows folders without making the whole drive visible to all users. I was frustrated buy the inability of Ubuntu 8.10 to do this but then I realized it was using an older version of NTFS-3g

If your interested, here is the thread describing what I am trying to do.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1111120&referrerid=325870

Thanks for your hard work. Just reading the documentation, I can appreciate the complexity of the issues between NTFS and Ext3.

Cheers
