NTFS Partition shown as FAT16 and so impossible to mount
Hi,
i have here a NTFS Partition from Windows XP. ntfs-3g show as debug-answer NTFS signature is missing, device doesn't have a valid NTFS.
fdisk show me that the partition should be FAT16, but it is NTFS. the force option doesn't help also.
I tried with serveral complete shutdowns, Defragmentation and Scandisk with automatic repair.
i don't know what i can try next, to get access to the NTFS Partition, i need only reading.

If NTFS-3G tells no NTFS signature then it means that it's not an NTFS partition. See more at http://ntfs-3g.org/support.html#mbr
It could also be a kernel bug if it doesn't calculate your partition start correctly.

uff...that'S right, i think its the mbr, because there is a Security login installed "Safeguard Easy" at the startup, and this could be the reason
i won't override the mbr, is there any force option in ntfs-3g possible ?

It can not be forced because the NTFS file system is not accessible.

so, there is no chance to get access to the ntfs file system ? So this is good option to lock the ntfs partition with live linux systems :)

You could try a partition table recovery program (like testdisk) to find the real partition location and then use it (with losetup or something similar).
