Post no FILE magic error with ntfsresize
ntfsresize -i /dev/sda1 give me about 10 messages like this for a ntfs partition under Windows XP.

Record 71562 has no FILE magic (0x0)
ntfs_mst_post_read_fixup: magic: 0x00000000 size: 1024 usa_ofs: 0 usa_count: 65535: Invalid argument

I have made a chkdsk C: /R from Windows but the problem persits. Note that Windows XP seems perfectly happy with that file system and chkdsk do not report problems (except "has corrected small incoherence" but I see that all the times, I assume this is normal). Note also that ntfsresize version 2.0 is perfectly happy, only ntfsresize 2011.4.12 complains. I do not have any problems to mount it with ntfs-3g.

What is about, is it serious?

There is no problem at all with this. This is a file entry which was created when doing a file table (MFT) extension, but has never been used and is still uninitialized. When the file table becomes full, more entries than actually needed are created, to reduce fragmentation, and they may lead to the above warning.

Such warnings are exhibited by ntfsresize (and ntfsclone), because all file entries are analyzed to identify the space in use, even entries which are not referenced in the file tree.

Regards

Jean-Pierre
