Post Why can not write into NTFS partition?
Hi,

I have installed lfs 6.3 linux in vmware. I recompiled the kernel with supports for FUSE, NTFS and NTFS-write features. Then, I added a virtual hard disk for vmware, which corresponds to a host's hard disk. After rebooting with new kernel, I installed the ntfs-3g 2011.4.12, and mounted one NTFS partition of the new virtual hard disk with command:

mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/hdb2 /mnt

Although a file can be writed into /mnt, but after umounting I didn't see that file in host's folder. Then I remounted that virtual hard disk and ls, that file is there at all. Why the NTFS partition can not be writable actually? Thanks!

You probably wrote elsewhere, but as you do not show your actual mountpoint (/mnt/something) and the write command, I cannot really tell.

this is a session:

root [ ~ ]# mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/hdb2 /mnt
The disk contains an unclean file system (0, 0).
The file system wasn't safely closed on Windows. Fixing.
root [ ~ ]# cd /mnt
root [ /mnt ]# ls
NTDETECT.COM RECYCLER System Volume Information boot.ini bootfont.bin downloads ntldr repos share work
root [ /mnt ]# cp ~/README.txt .
root [ /mnt ]# ls
NTDETECT.COM README.txt RECYCLER System Volume Information boot.ini bootfont.bin downloads hello.txt ntldr repos share work
root [ /mnt ]# cd
root [ ~ ]# umount /mnt

The 'README.txt' is really copied. But, after umounting, I can not find it in Windows' folder.

You have mounted into /mnt, thus hiding existing mounts in /mnt/* What was the contents of /mnt before you mounted ?

How did you make sure /dev/hdb2 is the same as c:\ ?
