Post User level application block CPU in uClinux
Hi,

We are using the ntfs-3g package. We see that whenever ntfs file system is used for writing the user level application consumes more CPU % which affects other applications flow.

Please let us know how to tune the same such that the other applications are not affected.

Regards,
Karthik

Hi,

Which ntfs-3g version are you using ?
Are you writing big files ?

Would you accept using a special ntfs-3g version for investigation ?

Regards

Jean-Pierre

Hi Jean-Pierre,

ntfs-3g 2009.4.4 integrated FUSE 27

Please let us know the application version you propose for better performance.

You should try ntfs-3g-2010.3.6 just released (http://www.tuxera.com/community/ntfs-3g-download/)
The performance improvement depends on your usage pattern.

Hi Jean-Pierre,

To solve the compilation errors can we do the things mentioned in the thread "NTFS-3G ver. 2010.3.6 compile problems (uClibc 0.9.30.1)" ?

Regrads,
Karthik

Yes, you should, they look appropriate.

Hi Jean-Pierre,

We could see an improved performance in this release thanks.

We face one more issues with some folders/files not getting deleted from the drive when the drive was abruptly disconnected. Running chkdsk utility in windows solves this problem. Is there any utility in the ntfs-3g package itself will solve the problem?

Should i raise this question as a different thread or can i continue in the current thread itself ?

Regards,
Karthik

This is a well known and complex issue which will not be solved in a foreseeable future. You have to unmount (or shutdown) properly.

I do not know of any open-source utility. You may try running chkdsk with a Windows emulator, such as wine.

You should create a specific thread per issue. Now it depends on details you would want to add.

Hi Jean-Pierre,

We are trying to address end users problem who might not know the technical details of storage media disconnection during access.
